During the course, you dive with a PADI Professional in one of the most extreme adventure specialties recreational diving offers.

What You Learn

You will complete a minimum of three ice dives for your certification. Dives are typically done as a group working with support personnel, divers, tenders, and safety divers. You are under the ice to learn to control buoyancy, navigate under the ice, and keep in contact with the lead diver and tenders via line pulls.

You learn:

To plan and organize ice dives
Reasons and opportunities for ice diving,
Equipment considerations
About site selection, preparation and hole-cutting procedures
How to practice the procedures and techniques for handling the problems and hazards of ice diving
To use specialized ice diving equipment, safety lines, signals, communications, line tending and line-securing techniques
How to manage equipment problems
About the effects of cold, emergency procedures and safety-diver procedures

Prerequisites

You MUST have your Advanced Open Water Diver Certification and be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Scuba Gear You Use

Students will need a full set of scuba gear, including 3 tanks. You can dive in either a wetsuit or a Drysuit for this course.
Rental scuba gear is 50% off for all students, however, rental Drysuits are very limited and have no rental discount. It is recommended that students interested in learning how to dive in a drysuit buy one so they can use it again in the future.

Learning Materials You Need

Students have to read through and complete the knowledge reviews in the PADI Ice Diver Manual prior to class.

Your Next Adventure

Although some ice divers dive in a wetsuit, you’ll probably find that you are more comfortable in a dry suit. The PADI Dry Suit Diver course can help you become familiar with the nuances of using a dry suit.

While you’re brushing up on your specialty diving skills, you should also take the Rescue Diver course, which puts you just one step closer to the Master Scuba Diver rating.

What do I need for Gear?: Full Scuba Gear with two tanks and a Dry Suit, and it is recommended that students have a Dry Suit Baselayer underwear (mandatory with rental).

Is there a student rental gear rate: Yes! - Students receive 50% off rental gear from us while on course.

Can I rent a drysuit if I do not own one?: Rental Drysuits are very limited and have no rental discount. It is recommended that students interested in learning how to dive in a drysuit buy one so they can use it again in the future.

Who can take this course?: Students need to be a certified Open Water Diver and be at least 12 years old.

How do I reach my instructor?: After you have registered, the instructor's contact information will be available on your invoice and your contact information will also be forwarded to the instructor. They will be in touch with you by email or phone to introduce themselves and you may ask them questions anytime, as they there to help.

What do I do with the PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty text?: The manual is an important part of the class and contains valuable knowledge. Please read and complete the knowledge reviews before the pool session.

Is there a classroom & pool session?: This course can have a classroom and pool session depending on when it is running. Please check with the store or look on your bill at the time of purchase for specific details.

How is this course structured?: The Drysuit Diver Course generally has a classroom & pool session before the dives, but sometimes knowledge reviews are done at the Open Water Dives. ALWAYS check your invoice/ DS calendar for additional details!

Is there a maximum amount of students in the course?: Typically the course will hold 8 students at a time.

Can I use Dive Zone discount coupons on this course?: Dive Zone members may use their discounts as specified on their membership cards.

What happens if I fail to complete a training dive or have to reschedule?: If a student cancels with less than 7 days notice, is absent or late, shows up unprepared or not ready to dive or does not successfully complete a dive for some reason, they do not fail the program. They will only be required to do a makeup dive(s) with one of the available instructors at a later date, at a rate of $30 per makeup dive, plus rental gear and any charter fees if applicable.
