The PADI Drift Diver Specialty course introduces you to the coolest magic carpet ride you’ll ever experience. This course shows you how to enjoy rivers and ocean currents by “going with the flow,” staying with your dive partner, communicating with the dive boat and knowing where you are the whole time.


What You Learn

During your PADI Drift Diver certification course, you learn about:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of drift diving
  • An introduction to drift diving equipment -- floats, lines, reels
  • Buoyancy-control, navigation and communication for drift diving
  • Site selection and overview of aquatic currents – causes and effects
  • Techniques for staying close to a buddy or together as a group

Prerequisites

  • Students must be a Certified Open Water Diver

What Gear You Use

  • Full dive gear is required. 
  • Recommended Accessories: Dive Float with flag and Reel or line to hold on to it., Surface maker safety tube, Signal Mirror, Whistle or Dive Alert

Learning Materials You Need

  • Students read and complete Knowledge reviews the PADI Drift Diving Speciality Manual before class

The Advanced Scuba Diver Course will give you even more access to the underwater world. You can also try some other specialties on your way to becoming a master scuba diver.

What do I need for Gear?: Full set of gear, and it is recommended that each student has a Dive Float with flag and Reel or line to hold on to it, Surface maker safety tube, Signal Mirror, Whistle or Dive Alert.


Is there a student rental gear rate: Yes! - Students receive 50% off rental gear from us while on course.


How do I reach my instructor?: After you have registered, the instructor's contact information will be available on your invoice and your contact information will also be forwarded to the instructor. They will be in touch with you by email or phone to introduce themselves and you may ask them questions anytime, as they there to help.


What do I do with the Drift Diver Manual?: The manual is an important part of the class and contains valuable knowledge. Please read and complete the knowledge reviews before class!


Is there a pool session?: No.


How is this course structured?: The Drift Diver Course generally have a classroom session before the dives, but sometimes knowledge reviews are done at the Open Water Dives. ALWAYS check your invoice/ DS calendar for additional details!


Can I use Dive Zone discount coupons or PickaMix on this course?: Dive Zone members may use their discounts as specified on their membership cards..


What happens if I fail to complete a training dive or have to reschedule?: If a student cancels with less than 7 days notice, is absent or late, shows up unprepared or not ready to dive or does not successfully complete a dive for some reason, they do not fail the program. They will only be required to do a makeup dive(s) with one of the available instructors at a later date, at a rate of $30 per makeup dive, plus rental gear and any charter fees if applicable.
