It happens: People accidentally drop things from docks, off boats or even while scuba diving. If you’ve ever lost something in the water and wanted to go find it, then the PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course is for you. There are effective ways to search for objects underwater that increase your chances of success. And there are good and better methods to bring up small, large or just awkward items. Search and recovery can be challenging, but a whole lot of fun.


What You Learn

  • Search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential problems
  • How to locate large and small objects using search patterns
  • How to use a lift bag and other recovery methods
  • Limited visibility search techniques

Prerequisites

This course is open to anyone who is a certified Advanced Open Water Diver and is 12 years old or older. 

Scuba Gear You Use

A full set of gear is required, two tanks,  as well as students, will need a compass and underwater slate. It is also recommended that students have a dive light, marker buoys, lines & reels, and a lift bag. Students receive 50% off any rental gear they will need. 

Learning Materials You Need

Students read and complete Knowledge reviews in the Search and Recovery Diver textbook before class.

Is there a student rental gear rate: Yes! - Students receive 50% off rental gear from us while on course.


Can anyone take this course?: Students must have completed their Advanced Open water and be at least 12 years old.


How do I reach my instructor?: After you have registered, an introductory email will be sent you with information on the course, which will include your instructor's name and contact information.


What do I do with the Search & Recovery Manual?: The manual is an important part of the class and contains valuable knowledge. Please read and complete the knowledge reviews BEFORE class.


Is there a pool session?: No.  


How is this course structured?: The Search & Recovery Course generally have a classroom session before the dives, but sometimes knowledge reviews are done at the Open Water Dives. ALWAYS check your invoice/ DS calendar for additional details!


What is the maximum amount of students allowed?: Typically this class will hold 8 students at a time.


Can I use Dive Zone discount coupons on this course?: Dive Zone members may use their discounts as specified on their membership cards.

 

What happens if I fail to complete a training dive or have to reschedule?: If a student cancels with less than 7 days notice, is absent or late, shows up unprepared or not ready to dive or does not successfully complete a dive for some reason, they do not fail the program. They will only be required to do a makeup dive(s) with one of the available instructors at a later date, at a rate of $30 per makeup dive, plus rental gear and any charter fees if applicable.
