The PADI Rescue Diver Course with DIVE SOURCE

"Challenging" and "rewarding" best describe the PADI Rescue Diver course. Building upon what you've already learned, this course expands on what you already know about how to prevent problems, and how to manage them if they occur.

To enroll in the PADI Rescue Diver course, you must be:

  • 12 years or older
  • Have a PADI Advanced Open Diver certification (or have a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Be trained and current for first aid and CPR within the previous two years (Ask your instructor about Emergency First Response CPR and first aid courses).
  • Complete the Online Rescue Diver eLearning program - INFO HERE

The Scuba Gear You Use

You use all your basic scuba gear including a dive computer and accessories. We give all our students 50% off rental gear when on a course if they require any, plus all your airfills are free.

The Learning Materials You Need

This course requires you to complete the Padi Rescue Diver eLearning course before you do the classroom review and the practical skills sessions in open water over two days of diving.

You also will require some course materials with the eLearning crewpack which includes a pocket mask, Rescue skills slate and Rescue Diver emblem. 

Your Next Adventure

After completing CPR and first aid and the PADI Rescue Diver course, you should take the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider course Together, these three courses round out your ability to handle scuba diver emergencies.

How do I sign up for the course?: Simply register for the course in person at the shop or over the phone with a credit card, then come in to get your course manual and do paperwork

What do I need for gear?: Mask, snorkel, strap style fins & wetsuit boots, cold water wetsuit, hood, gloves, BCD, 28-32 lbs of weight, weight belt (if not integrated), cold water regulator with compass, dive computer, 2 scuba tanks - Optional but recommended - Underwater flashlight, dive reel and pocket mask.

What do I do with the Rescue Diver eLearning code I’ve been sent: The eLearning is an essential part of the course and contains valuable knowledge that you will be tested on and use during the open water dives. Please ensure you redeem the code from the email, and complete all the eLearning prior to class.

Is there a classroom session?: Yes - Please check your bill for dates and times. During the class, you will review some of the material and lessons for the eLearning you completed. You will also be administered an eLearning quick review quiz to test you on your knowledge.

How many dives are done in the course? : You will complete a minimum of four dives, however, their more things like surface rescue scenarios, onshore first aid scenarios etc.

How physically demanding is the course? During the course, you will actively assist in rescue tows of divers in simulated distress while wearing full scuba gear. Training scenarios will have you aiding divers in many ways including towing them to shore and removing their equipment etc. to provide first aid. While these activities can be physically demanding, students work within their physical means to the best of their abilities as they would in a real-life situation.

How do I reach my instructor if I have questions?: After you have registered, you will be emailed information on the course, including the instructor's contact information.

What happens if I have to reschedule?: Students may cancel or postpone the class with at least 14 days notice and will receive a store credit which may be used as they wish.

What if Dive Source has to cancel a training dive? If a training dive is cancelled for some reason (like very bad weather) we will work with the students in the class to reschedule it and there will be no charge for rental gear from Dive Source


Where can I go from here? The PADI Rescue Diver certification is a prerequisite for all Professional level courses such as Divemaster or Instructor. It is also a required part of the PADI Master Scuba Diver certification, along with 5 PADI specialty courses.
