The PADI Digital UW & UW Photographer Courses with DIVE SOURCE

Level One - Is suitable for Snorkelers or divers and consists of a classroom session and a single dive (open water or pool) where they will learn the basics of camera operation and photography and then put these skills into practical use. The instructor will give in water feedback and advice with the students taking pictures in different orientations and using different settings.

Level Two - Level One is a prerequisite for Level Two and consists of an open water scuba dive with an instructor followed by a classroom session in post processing and critique (Note: this is an open water program and may not be done in the pool).

Note: You must take both Level 1 & 2 to qualify as a specialty towards Master scuba diver.

What You Learn

  • How to choose the right underwater camera system for you
  • The PADI SEA method for getting great shots quickly
  • The three primary principles for good underwater photos

Prerequisites

The Gear You Use

Students will use full scuba gear if doing a dive, if they are snorkelling, then they will need a mask, fins and a snorkel. Students will all need a camera of course! We have rental gear available, which is 50% off for students.

Learning Materials You Need

Students will read through the PADI Underwater Photography Manual prior to class.

Your Next Adventure

Two excellent specialties to pair with underwater photography are the PADI Enriched Air Diver course and the PADI Dry Suit Diver course on your way to PADI Master Scuba Diver. The PADI Enriched Air Diver course allows you to extend your time underwater so you have more time to capture images. In cooler climates, a dry suit allows you to dive comfortably longer, and to make more dives.

You may also find the Peak Performance Buoyancy course gives you helpful tips to optimize your weighting and skills so you’ll be in a better position to capture that perfect picture.
