PADI Assistant Instructor Course

Not sure on becoming a full Instructor, then take the next step to Assistant Instructor.

Start gaining additional experience as a PADI Professional and become an instructional scuba assistant and assume teaching responsibilities while concentrating on developing teaching skills. It’s a big step to gaining experience in order to become a scuba instructor!

The PADI Assistant Instructor Course consists of 3 modules; Academic training, Independent study and Practical application.  In addition to the responsibilities and duties you already have as a PADI Divemaster, as a PADI Assistant Instructor you can teach academic, present initial skills during confined water dives, evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills, and many more under the supervision of a PADI Instructor.

This course is the first component of the PADI Instructor Development Course and builds upon Divemaster training. The Assistant Instructor course is a 4-5 day program that introduces you to the role of an instructional assistant, both in academic teaching and in confined & open water training. After this program, you can enroll in our PADI Instrutor Development Course

What will I need to start?

• PADI Divemaster rating or qualifying certification from another certification organization

• At least 18 years old

• Have 60 logged dives, including night, deep, and navigation dive

• Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months

Note: PADI E-Learning, Crew Pack and application fees extra.

What can PADI Assistant Instructors do?

• Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
• Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
• Teach the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course
• Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses
• Conduct PADI Discover Scuba experiences
• Teach Emergency First Response after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course

What is the IDC?

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating.

The Next Step.
